Operation Christmas Child

12 successful years of packing gift filled shoeboxes for needy children around the world!  We are so blessed to participate in this wonderful international mission with Franklin Graham and Samaritan’s Purse.  Thanks to our organizer, Keith Rondeau, and his team, our church enjoyed packing 526 shoeboxes! What a wonderful display of our service to Jesus and our love and compassion to children.

Friday Nov 18th was our giant Packing Party.  Keith and his wife had the gym decorated and laid out for the entire community to join our church family in packing boxes. It is such a joyful event—the giving to others philosophy is a powerful Christian message.  Young and old came to help us reach a new high for the number of boxes packed at the event.  Next year be sure to join us and invite your friends!

Second Baptist also plays a small part in the national effort, serving as a Relay Collection Center.  Our Center received 350 shoeboxes this year from 12 individuals, 7 churches, a boy scout troop and two other organizations.  Operation Christmas Child has broad appeal!  It is so easy to do, the cost is low and it helps us appreciate the overflowing blessings (of extra soap, personal toothbrushes and bountiful school supplies….) that we enjoy in this country.

If you haven’t joined in the effort yet, set your heart to it for next year!  Gather items all year, shopping sales and clearances, and watch for Second Baptist’s events in November of 2012.  This high impact, simple mission project churns out big rewards as children, their families and even their communities are impacted with shared love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.                - Rayanne Neveu
