The Call To Community |
| Sep 16 2011 |
Today, I am thinking about what it means to be a community. Our world seems such a far cry from it these days. Divisiveness, jealousy, envy, strife - all things the Bible tells us to avoid. Why? Because God cares deeply about the way we live together. How we bond in His Spirit. How we build each other up, and encourage other's potential, instead of tearing one another down with criticisms, negativity, and the seeds of insecurity. Basically, how we love and care in our actions and not just words. Philippians 2:3 says, “do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” Can you imagine a world that lives like this? Our political leaders? Business practices? Legal proceedings? And yet it seems like people can't even do this in their own families today! What then shall we say? Is there no hope? Is all lost for this Biblical calling? There is always hope in Christ! And it is in His body - the church - that I still hear this calling and believe it can be lived out. Will we stumble? Surely. Will we err? Of course. But love endures all things, and where God's love abides, so too abides repentant hearts, forgiveness, encouragement, and the seeds for growth. Where God's love is, there exists true community.
