Having trouble understanding Zoom? Full instructions are available below.
Second Baptist Church will be using a program called Zoom for multiple activities. Zoom not only allows for more interaction, but people without a computer can dial in on a phone to listen to the service. Below are some directions.
Zoom is an easy to use web conferencing tool that allows us to share the worship experience with you while you are away.
Here’s how to access Zoom from your computer. First, get the Zoom link for the meeting (included above). This will also be posted to Facebook. Like the church’s Facebook page, Second Baptist Church- South Hadley, MA, to receive this information.
When you click the link, your web browser will automatically launch.
You will be prompted to open the zoom.us.app, which will download the app on the first time you access it. After that, it will just open for you. If you are not prompted, click the blue text “download & run Zoom.”
When you open the app, it will ask you to join by computer audio. This is your best option.
Once you have arrived in our online worship space, you will see a screen with your image and a screen share with some information about the service. Any open video feeds will appear on the right, as in the example below. Instead of seeing the face in this shot, you will see the sanctuary. Before the service, we will mute our mic so you won’t hear anything. When the service is ready to begin, we open the mic so you can hear what’s happening.
If you hover over the bottom of your Zoom window, you will see controls. There are controls for the mic, video, and chat. We ask that you please leave your mic muted, as any sounds coming from your location are heard in the service, which makes it difficult for those in the room to stay focused. You can choose whether or not you wish to have yourself on video. If you find the sound and video are choppy, turning off your camera can help. Depending on your connection to the internet, sending and receiving both audio and video can overload your connection’s ability to work properly.
You will find a chat button of the screen. If you click on it, you will have the ability to use a chat box to message everyone or you can drop down a little arrow next to that option to privately chat with someone who is on with you.
You can also access Zoom from your smartphone or tablet. Go to your device’s app store and search for Zoom. Download it and you are ready to go. Use the same procedure to access the link (email or Facebook) and you will be prompted to open the Zoom app on your device. Things will look a little different, but the principles are the same.
When the service is over, you can click “Leave Meeting” on the bottom right-hand corner of your computer screen or the upper right-hand corner of your mobile device.
Feeling technology challenged? You can just call in using the phone number that will be provided (included above). You will be asked to enter a meeting number. You can also see that on the Facebook link. Just please be sure to mute your phone. You can still hear, but it will cut down on extra noise.
That’s pretty much it! We hope you will find this information helpful so you can still worship with us until we are able to be together in person once again. God’s blessings to you and those you hold dear!
